Commenting after questioning the First Minister on the Scottish Government's role in The Gathering, Liberal Democrat member of the Public Audit Committee Nicol Stephen MSP said:
"It's quite clear that Alex Salmond is shedding crocodile tears over the plight of the private sector creditors.
"His Government could have found a way to save the company and pay off the dozens of small businesses who are still owed over £380,000 by the Gathering.
"But instead he backed off as soon as he thought responsibility had been shuffled off to Edinburgh Council.
"Then, when the Council refused to go along with his scheme, the previously hyper-active First Minister chose to do precisely nothing.
"These small businesses have been badly let down by Alex Salmond and the Scottish Government."
